What does it cost to list my organization?

It's free to list your organization on our site. It is also free for volunteers to register. 

If you charge a fee to your volunteers, you can indicate that in your posting. Volunteers will be able to search for volunteer opportunities based on the cost of the program.

How does this work?

We have seen the tremendous power of putting the right volunteers and organizations together. Voluntourism is a matching service to help volunteers and organization find each other. When you create a posting on our site, potential volunteers can search, find your program and contact you about becoming a volunteer.

Can I have multiple volunteer job postings?

Yes! If you have multiple projects, you can have multiple listings. However, it may be easier to maintain just one post.

Can I choose what volunteers I'd like to host?

Yes, of course. It's totally up to you who you'd like to invite as a volunteer. Once you've received an email from a potential volunteer, feel free to ask questions to learn more about him/her before confirming that you'd like them to come.

What amount of hours is standard to ask of volunteers?

It totally depends on the project and what works best for you. Volunteers can search based on the hours per week requirements.

Can I recruit a volunteer with a specific skill?

Yes! Right now, if you're looking for someone with a specific skill, such as a builder, architect, artist, chef, fundraising expert, etc., you can email us at meghan@govoluntourism.com. We are working on refining and simplifying the process of searching for volunteers based on their skills and experience. 

Are you actively recruiting volunteers?

Yes! Our network is growing everyday! Thanks for being a beta-user and helping us get started! We're really appreciative. 

I'd like to host a journalist. How does that work?

We work with journalists who are writing articles for magazines, newspapers and blogs. We create itineraries for the journalist based on their requirements or interests. Just by being a part of the Voluntourism website, you'll be considered for future articles - a great way to gain some press and publicity for your project.

How do I get featured on the home page?

Make sure you have a picture uploaded and, chances are, you'll be featured on the homepage.

How does the tagging system work?

Every post is reviewed by our staff to make sure there aren't any missing details and to avoid spam. We then tag the post to help volunteers narrow down their search based on location, type of project, time commitment and cost. Let us know if you'd like to be included in a category in which you aren't currently tagged.

I finished my post, but it doesn't show up on the site. What's the deal?

We review every post before it's published live on the site, just to make sure there are no missing details and to avoid spam. Usually within one business day you'll see your post show up on the site.

I need to raise money for my project. Can you help us?

At this point, we're specializing in helping amazing projects like yours find volunteers. Often, these volunteers can be a great source of help with fundraising or creating income-generating activities for your project. In the future, we'd like to incorporate more ways for organizations to earn money through our website, but for now we're focusing on volunteering.

How do you guys make money?

The short answer is: we don't. We started this project because we truly believe in the power of volunteering and that, if more people have access to volunteering abroad, we will create a more sustainable and beautiful society and planet. Thus far, our personal time and money from our own back pockets have funded the project.

However, we also believe that no project is sustainable without being able to support itself. So we have lots of creative ideas for helping more people volunteer abroad while also earning some money for this project. We plan to test these ideas out slowly. What is most important is that we have open access - that's why we don't want to charge anyone anything to use this site. However, we're open to suggestions, so if you have any great ideas you'd like to share, let us know :) We're also looking for funders that share our vision and might want to work together to see bigger things happen.

Do you screen your volunteers?

No. We are a classified listing for volunteer opportunities and we cannot screen or verifiy the identitiy of any of the volunteers who use our website. You are strongly encouraged to do your own background and reference checks prior to entering into any sitation with a contact made on this website. Treat all users of this website, and contacts made via this website, as if they were a stranger you were meeting for the first time.
